On the same morning that I took this shot, I also captured this one of the sunrise colors reflected in the West Thumb Paint Pots pond. At this point in the morning, I was chilled and welcomed the sun that would warm the day on this mid-August day. Taking the extra bit of effort to deliberate capture images from one of the best sunrise spots in Yellowstone was well worth it. I translated the digital photo into a digital photo watercolor as a possible candidate for the cover of my West Thumb Guide Book (affiliate link), but it didn't make the cut. Even so, this is one of my favorite images of West Thumb Geyser Basin in large part because when looking at this image, I can still feel the chill in the air and hear the bubbling mud pots.
